Well, not three boys. But three children in the King family. Last week, the ultrasound technician was quite sure that Micah and Joel’s new sibling is going to be a sister. Micah is thrilled, as he has been saying for weeks that he hopes the new baby is a girl. We are all excited, although this will mean lots of changes ahead!
Big Boys get Bunkbeds
Since it looks like we aren’t going to move quite yet, we decided to go ahead and get the boys bunkbeds now. Micah has been sleeping in a small children’s bed, and Joel has still been sleeping in the crib. Needless to say, they were just a little excited.
Putting on the parts that make the matching beds into bunkbeds.
The finished product!
Micah tries out the top bunk.
Joel gets a moment in Micah’s bed.
All ready for bed.
Happy New Year!
On New Year’s Eve we had cheese fondue. Then we went over to the McKenzie’s house, where Stephen shot off various fireworks he had bought. Brad and Kevin and most of the older kids from the Matthia and McKenzie families go to ski camp in Switzerland over New Year’s. But Stephen likes to do the fireworks for anyone who remains behind.
Holding meter long sparklers Stephen had bought.
Nativity Play
This Christmas Krischa McKenzie, one of our co-workers, directed a nativity play involving all the teenagers and children in the church. Since we got back from furlough just two weeks before the play, we jumped right in to the practices. Micah was a wiseman, and had to memorize two short lines in German. It was a challenge for him, but he did a good job remembering most of the words. Joel was baby Jesus at two years old, when the wisemen came to visit.
Florida Visit
Here are a few last furlough pictures from the week we spent in Florida with my parents. First is helping Pepaw get leaves up from the yard.
Visiting with Grammie Wittig (Vicki’s maternal grandmother) who turned 92 several weeks after we were there.
Memaw pushing Grammie and the boys.
Grammie getting her excercise.
A Visit to the Beach
The week before Thanksgiving we got to visit my parents in Florida for a week. My sister, Kathy, and her daughter, Kiah, also got to come. We had unusually cold temperatures, with freezes almost every night. (Ironically, it had been 80* when we were in Wisconsin!) However, one day it warmed up to the upper 60’s and we decided to take a trip to the beach. At first the boys weren’t sure about so much water. But once they stepped in, they loved it and it was hard to keep them from going all the way in!
Frost or Snow
Here is a short break from furlough pictures. Since Christmas, we have had only 3 days with above freezing temperatures, and those days it only got up to 34* F. On Wednesday night it went down to -1* F. Thursday morning the frost was so heavy it almost looked like it had snowed again. Unfortunately I don’t have any close-up pictures because I didn’t want to go outside. But what is on the ground is snow. And whatever you see on the trees and bushes is a very heavy frost. It was truly beautiful!

Spending Time with Oma, Opa, and Auntie Alicia
Here are a few more pictures to finish out the time spent with Stephen’s parents.
The boys got to ride the lawn mowers with Opa, both at church and at home.
The boys decide the mower is too loud!
The boys enjoyed riding two little tricycles together.

Having fun making pizza with Oma.

Just being cute.
Cuddling with Opa and the blankie.
Visiting with the cousins (Stephen’s older sister, Stephanie) the day after Thanksgiving.
Looking at Christmas lights at Lake Lanier islands.
